Howdy, My name is Rachel and I love taking photos.
My love for photography started during the summer of 2011. A hipster put a Zenit XP12 in my hands and after patiently walking me through how to load a roll of film he explained basic light settings and walked me through how to take my first photo. From that moment I became obsessed. Photographing everything I could (very poorly at first) to try and train my eye and improve my craft.
In 2015, at my poppas wake my uncle put a Nikon DF in my hands and told me to capture the day. He taught me the importance of creating a story within a photo and he taught me to be comfortable walking through the world with a camera in front of my face. Through the extreme discomfort that comes with taking photos at a wake I begun to find my feet as a photographer.
In 2017, 30 or so medium format cameras and countless rolls of film later I got my first digital camera, straying from my ‘medium format purist’ phase it very quickly became an extension of my arm and now I’m very rarely seen without it.
I have been very fortunate in my journey as a photographer to be surrounded by friends and family who have been able to teach and guide me. Taking the lesson of story telling and applying it to everything that I do I love to weave the narrative of a day, event or short shoot through my stills.
